How to get started
- Listen to our net. Tune to 147.180 MHz (+0.6 MHz, PL 123.0 Hz) any night at 7:30 PM. Get a feel for how we operate, and check in when you're ready.
- Come to a meeting. We meet on the First Saturday of each month at 9:00 AM at the Franklin County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 120 County Way, Farmington, ME. Just show up — no need to register in advance.
- Introduce yourself. Say hello on the net or contact us, and we'll connect you with our Emergency Coordinator and get you on the roster.
- Register with ARES. We'll help you complete the simple ARES registration so your skills and equipment are on file with the Maine Section.
- Start training. Begin the free online courses on our Training page whenever you're ready.
What we ask of members
- Participate — check into the net when you can, and join us at meetings and exercises.
- Keep learning — work through the basic training at your own pace.
- Be ready — keep a working radio and a simple "go-kit" so you can help on short notice.
- Be a good operator — courteous, accurate, and calm on the air.
